Chemical
Dumping has become a serious issue in many parts of the US. Specifically in
East Chicago, Illinois and Newark, NJ. In East Chicago, Illinois there is lead
and arsenic around homes causing environmental and health issues. In Newark,
New Jersey’s public school it has be found that there is lead in the water. For
young children ingesting lead can led to behavioral and learning problems. In
the book Friendswood the issue of chemical dumping also comes up.
Because of chemical dumping the community was forced to evacuate and cause many
health problems and even death. These issues are all very serious although they
were not all taken as seriously as they should have been.
In East
Chicago, Illinois they did not receive help after being told to relocate. They were
just told to get out because of the contamination and that was it. But the
community spoke up they were to the government and the EDA. After they were out
for help they received it. Members of the community were given housing vouchers
and were not required to may rent and were reimbursed for the month of November.
I believe that in the way the situation was handle was very ethical. Although
they didn’t not help at first they did tell them about the lead and arsenic and
told the home owners to leave. I believe that they were ethical in dealing with
this chemical dumping.

In Newark,
NJ when the drinking water was found to be unsafe and contaiminated the school
district and all authoritys involved seemed to jump into action. They began
running more and more test to see what water suppliers are contaminated. They
passed out bottled water for everyone to drink so they did not drink the water
with lead. Also they began to shut off the contaminated water supply so it was
no longer being use for cooking or drinking. In this issue everyone seems to be
very ethical. They are all trying to help the issue and find the cause. They
are also making sure that the contaminated water is not consumed as best they
can.
In the book
Friendswood the exact opposite is happening. The chemical dumping caused
so many issues including environmental and health issue. Although no one is
helping or trying to do anything about the contamination. Most people are just
acting like it is fine and that the contamination is actually happening.
Everyone involved in the chemical dumping and testing is completely unethical
and corrupt. They do not care about anyones safety or well being they just care
about the money which is extremely unethical and wrong.
